Alex Trebek is from Ontario.

I love stumbling across random stuff online that only I would find funny:

"From the attic came an unearthly howl. The whole scene had an eerie, surreal quality. Like when you’re on vacation in another city and Jeopardy comes on at 7 instead of 7:30."

I watch Jeopardy as often as possible and I've noticed that Alex Trebek can sometimes be condescending when people give wrong answers. He'll read the correct answer and give this face like "you should have known that, dumbass". Especially when the category is Canadian Provinces.

I Don't Know How She Does it.

My mom is a first grade teacher and every year she says that she has yet to make it through the first day of school without someone crying. Yesterday evening she called me and I asked her how the first day went with twenty seven-year-olds. "It went really well. Only one boy cried and one girl threw up twice. We had a pretty good day."

Before I Die...

"One part cultural study, another part an encouragement to reflect on priorities and take action on desires, the Before I die I want to... project will create a new dialogue in the realm of sociological art. The project aims to urge people towards thinking about and fulfilling their life goals by asking them to make a promise to themselves and to the photographer

These polaroids were the ones that I could relate to the most.

Cutest Couple Ever.

My Grandma & Grandpa Rickard celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last week. Their story is amazing. They met in second grade. Grandpa asked Grandma to the 4th grade dance and he gave her a heart locket. She still wears it. They were married right after high school in 1948. Six kids and twelve grandchildren later they are always together and still in love. They finish each others' stories.
To celebrate we had dinner at a snazzy restaurant and afterwards a party at my aunt & uncle's house that involved lots of sugar, laughing, and photo taking. As a surprise my aunts recreated the wedding cake and dessert table from my grandparent's wedding photos.
They really are so cute together. I hope that in sixty-ish years I'm as happy as they are.

Rickard family gatherings usually involve epic dessert tables, occasional breakdancing, some Mario Kart, taco dip, and lots of the above.

Don't You Hate it When That Happens?

So I've had the song America by Simon & Garfunkel stuck in my head for about a week now. On repeat. It's getting to be a problem because I sing it without even noticing. Which is fine if I'm at home, but at work or walking down the street it looks like I'm having a conversation with myself.

It'd be great if I had something like the Gettysburg Address stuck in my head so that I could launch into that out of nowhere. If I ever meet someone who randomly recites historical speeches I think we'd be good friends.

Ohio.

I took the scenic route back to Columbus after a weekend spent visiting my family.
The interstate is way overrated.
