Summer has begun.
Driving down I-71 back to Columbus on a Sunday night, Tyler surprised me with an ice cream detour. The most spontaneous banana split I've ever had.

Kime Buzzelli.
Sophomore year of college I had an assignment to go to a local Columbus gallery and write a mock review of a show. I'm sooo so glad that I happened to stroll into Mahan Gallery and fall in love with Kime Buzzelli's art. The patterns and patches of day-glo colors surrounding the ladies make me so giddy and happy! I am a serious Kime fan! And how cool is it that she's an Ohio born gal too?!

As if being an awesome artist and designer wasn't enough Kime somehow finds time to throw together her blog The Moldy Doily. It's fun in a blog!

Inspiration.

I've always been fascinated by bugs and butterflies that have been elegantly framed science-meets-gallery style as to turn them into art. The colors and patterns of these butterflies from the Evolution Store are great inspiration for some new textile designs.

Alphabet.
It seems that every time I see an alphabet where each letter is different, I never like how the E looks. So I made my own.

Gatherings

My thesis show Gatherings took place in the Canzani gallery here at CCAD from April 26 - April 30. I was hoping that the work would draw a positive reaction, but the response was overwhelming. I am thrilled beyond words, so thankful and motivated, that the show received the compliments that it did.
The Silken Tent
I was so lucky to be able to present my thesis work the same week in which CCAD alums Amy & David Butler were visiting artists on campus. It was so exciting to get to meet them and show them my work. David Butler said that Wallpaper and Diamonds reminded him of childhood, and getting to hear Amy talk about her design business was such a treat!
Special thanks to Kenay Kash and Wolf Mutha for the awesome reviews of the show and to Pei Chen for taking the beautiful photographs of my work seen here! And to everyone who took the time to come to the closing reception or stopped by the gallery during the week, I cannot thank you enough.

Mark Bradford
I just got back from a lecture at the Wexner Center with LA artist Mark Bradford and Columbus artist Aminah Robinson. Mark has a solo show opening to the public on May 8th which goes until August 15th. It was fascinating getting to hear a contemporary artist speak about everything from how he collects materials to how he has gained notoriety as an abstract artist...and he won the MacArthur genius grant in 2009. Aminah Robinson (one of my favorites!) won in 2004, so it was pretty much the mixed-media dream team!
I know good art when it gives me goosebumps and makes my stomach feel deeper than it should be. Mark's work does that AND makes me want to run to the studio and start working.
