Piecing For Cover

A few pics from the collaborative textile event last night at Wild Goose Creative.  I really enjoyed working with the likes of Pallavi Sen and Dillon Sirimongkhon.

Pallavi contributed some beauuutiful gold fabric that she bought in Bombay.  And Dillon made the awesome little man in the plaid shirt, complete with a button on his sleeve.  I did the chunk in the middle with the big bold colorful vertical stripes (minus the lace part.  I hate lace.)

Mourning a Handbag

Dear favorite purse,

Thank you for helping me carry stuff for the past six or so years.  I don't know what that equals in purse years, alot.  Your faux leather was soft and perfectly weathered like a trusty saddle.  We went everywhere together.  Sadly, all good things must come to an end.  Your handles just couldn't take it anymore and began to peel.  The damage was irreversible, there was nothing I could do.  After months of searching I found a similar purse in an attempt to replace you.  Not perfect, but the inside is bright pink and I'm a sucker for color.  So today my old go-to bag was turned into scrap material.  It made me feel not quite so bad about cutting you up knowing that you will turn into artwork when I will sew you into a quilt.  But still, it was a sad day.  I don't like change.

Yellow Fix

A sunny thank you to Christa Kimble for including my yellow collage in her lovely yellow themed Tuesday Treasures post this week!  She's sooo right...we need some yellow on these snowyrainyicygray Ohio days.

i made a pillow.

It's a belated birthday pillow for my friend Meaghan.  A crowning achievement for a girl like me who does fiber art but never really learned how to use a sewing machine.

My Valentine

Tyler is my bestfriend.
He puts up with me when I'm cranky because I'm hungry and when I get stressed out in crowded places or the grocery store.

Thank you for being the guy who finishes my sentences and says what I'm thinking before I say it so that I can say instead I was just about to say that!

You build forts with me and tell me honestly and with kindness that I make the worst coffee and patiently reteach me again how to use the coffee maker.  Whenever we buy a pineapple you slice it with surgical precision and let me steal the first piece and eat the last piece and a whole lot in between.

Sometimes I run away from you in parking lots when you're not paying attention just so that you have to chase me and say Emmy get back here!  I love looking back at you to see you laughing right before you catch me and bearhug me.  And I don't even slow up or go easy on you, I'm superfast.

We're gettin married, probably sometime in 2012, and it will be all kinds of wonderful.  I can't wait to marry my best friend!  I love you Tyler!  I'm one lucky gal.

(And now, we are going to go spend Valentine's Day at the dollar theater watching Harry Potter 7 part 1. again.  Happy heart day to you all!  xoxo)

Piecing for Cover

I'm extra excited to be taking part in a collaborative textile event this month at Wild Goose Creative called Piecing for Cover.  Wild Goose is where I had a show last fall featured in this post.  I am one of eight featured artists who will be working a full 24 hours on this giant fiber piece which will be auctioned for the Homeless Families Foundation.  During the construction there will be fun events such as artist talks and smaller textile side-projects.  Come on down Feb. 25th @ 10pm...It'll be so fun to work all night!  Like a fiber artsy slumber party!

chchchchcchanges

Blog is undergoing changes today.  I decided it was ugly.  Should be nice looking by this evening, sorry for temp lack of title/header.

Pecha Kucha Columbus

Last night Tyler & I went to Pecha Kucha Columbus at the Columbus museum of Art.  We live right across the street from the museum which makes it all the more pitiful that I hadn't been there in at least a year.  Pecha Kucha is Japanese slang for chit chat and these events are held all over the world in an effort to promote up and coming creative folks.  An artist shows twenty slides and gets to talk about each image for 20 seconds.  It was packed with a reported 1200 people in attendance.  A little hard to see (or sit or stand) but totally worth it and very entertaining.

Some of my favorite speakers were Caleb & Levi Ely of Ely Bros. Photography, Amy Turn Sharp of Little Alouette, and Christoph Ono (pictured above) who developed the popular cornify button which when pressed covers your computer screen in unicorns and rainbows and happiness.

Afterwards we looked around the museum for a minute before the security guards threatened to kick us out, and low and behold there are TWO Robert Rauschenberg screenprinted boxes on display at CMA!  At first you think Oh cool, some cardboard up on a wall.  But all the writing, corrugation lines, scratches, dirt marks etc. are all printed by hand! Super exciting, had to be documented with the obligatory stand in front of the art pic.

Love

I love Kate Spade and I LOVE the fun e-valentines that they put out this time of the year.  They are designed by different artists and they are the quirkiest cutest valentines ever!  The perfect little thing to send to a friend to make them smile when they check their email.  My favorite valentine this year is your love makes me twinkle by Joy Cho of OhJoy!  Can't go wrong with sparkley shoes!

Color Overload

I wanted to share this post from my friend Travis of Rather Severe.  He and buddy Jon Stommel are mural painters by trade and they just did this fantastic piece in their house called a walk in mural.  It's beautiful!  Someday when I live in a place where I'm allowed to paint the walls ima call them up and have them do this to my whole house.

Etsy

Some new art coming soon to my Etsy shop.  It will need a good home.

And a big thanks to Unni from StrandRedesign who included my blue bird collage in her Etsy treasury!

Supabowl Sunday

No superbowl party is complete without a ton of cousins, a ton of food, and a cake shaped like a stadium.

Yay Christa!

I mention her photography often because I'm a big fan, and yesterday my friend Christa Kimble was featured on the glorious wedding blog 100 Layer Cake in their vendor spotlight!  Her lovely photographs remind me of summer and warmth and everything beautiful.  Speaking of beautiful check out her booth at the 2011 Columbus Bride Show.  Congratulations Christa!
