Sleep Make Art Sleep...

I've been on a roll lately getting work ready for the art sale.  So much so that I even got the urge to paint, and that never happens!  Some artists do studies for their final paintings, I do paintings as studies for textile pieces.  I don't consider myself much of a painter but I busted this one out and really enjoyed working on it.  Since Tyler & I are planning to move out west sometime in the fall I need to start liquidating alot of the artwork that currently fills up our apartment and using up the surplus of materials (like this canvas) left over from college.  Come visit me and this painting at the art sale in April!

Makin Art & Takin Names

The CCAD Spring Art Sale is three weeks from today.  I hope it's just as much fun as the winter sale, I met some of the nicest people that day!  This time I'm on the second floor of the Crane Center in front of the balcony that overlooks campus.  Tyler and his dad built me a wonderful stand to go behind my table which I can display some of the larger artwork on (I just have to decide what color to paint it!)  I'll have so much art to sell at the art sale, come buy something colorful!

*While I went to Pier 1 and bought new glasses that remind me of twirl perfume by Kate Spade!

Yesterday...

Tyler and I went on a date to Dairy Queen and Half Price Books.  I had a double fudge cookie dough blizzard and he had mint cookie dough.  He bought me ice cream and I bought him previously viewed dvds.  Then we went home and watched Rear Window (gosh I love Jimmy Stewart movies!) A wonderful way to spend a Wednesday evening.

St. Patrick's Day

This morning Tyler came out into the living room where I was drinking coffee and checking emails.  He was wearing a bright green t-shirt that has a shamrock on it and a saying like Flynn's Pub, eat, drink, and be Irish.  I said to him "did you know that today is St. Patrick's day?" (knowing full well that he neither knew nor cared) and he said "nope." and I said "that shirt just happened to be first one in the drawer huh?"  We both cracked up and my day was made.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!  Love Emily and Tyler (sorta)

Colorful Thursday: Pantone

Pantone's color for 2011 is Honeysuckle:

The intensity of this festive reddish pink allures and engages. In fact, this color, not the sweet fragrance of the flower blossoms for which it was named, is what attracts hummingbirds to nectar. Honeysuckle may also bring a wave of nostalgia for its associated delicious scent reminiscent of the carefree days of spring and summer.

I love the idea of painting something a bright pink accent color!  I don't think I will ever be allowed to paint an entire room pink, but Tyler might agree to something like the chairs.  Or a hot pink coffee table would be a great focal point.  We do agree on one thing, that our coffee mug collection will never be complete until we have a few Pantone mugs hanging in the kitchen.  They're like artwork + coffee that you get to enjoy every morning!  So pretty.

Happy Tuesday

I love love love these quirky animal figurines from The Good Machinery!  I think they're hilarious.  And the golden cougar would be awesome as a hood ornament on Tyler's truck.  These fun lovin animals are sold in The Good Machinery's Etsy shop.

Awesome Busy Weekend

My weekend was just that: busy and awesome Friday through Sunday.

Friday evening we had our good friends Pei and Greg over for dinner.  It was a blast!  Tyler and I made feta-lemon chicken, potatoes, and grilled pineapple.  We also burned through a ton of beer and Pei and I polished off a bottle of cherry wine all by ourselves (hope my mom isn't reading this!)  Pei is the amazing photographer from this post and she photographed my thesis show for me last year.  Saved me from an art school panic attack is more like it!  Pei doesn't go anywhere without her camera so she took funny awesome pictures of us all night long.  And then blogged them on her photo diary which provides me constant entertainment.  She took a whole series of photos of Tyler yawning, hilarious! (all photos below via Pei's website)

Other wonderful weekend things were when my parents & sister came to visit and we all met friends at Tip Top for lunch.  It was the first time I'd tried their eggplant fries, yum!  Followed by our second weekly Sunday night craft party with Nikki, Krysti, and Rachel.  No guys equals unabashedly watching chick flicks & episodes of 30 Rock while sewing things, drinking wine, and eating chocolate & strawberries.  Next weekend has a lot to live up to.

Etsy

My work was included in some lovely Etsy treasuries recently!  This spring like treasury contained chaos is by my friend Lindsey at LostandFawned.  She also featured my yellow collage on her absolutely adorable blog here!

This treasury Modern Colorful Triangles is so much fun.  Thanks for including my triangle collage AngelaDesign!

I've been making lots and lots of smaller collages lately and a good amount of jewelry in preparation for the CCAD spring art sale.  Come find me April 16th on the 2nd floor, I'll be at the table that's super colorful x1000!

Favorite Things

While there is so much that I love about Etsy, including the millions of items that I probably love but just haven't discovered yet, these posters by Debbie Carlos currently hold a place in my heart reserved only for absolute favorite Etsy finds.  They are simply lovely delicate extra-large magnificent dreamy fun huge prints.  Her Etsy shop is here!  Wouldn't one of these posters be a perfect "sofa painting" centerpiece above a couch?

Colorful Collections

I need a little color on this grey Ohio March day.  Lisa Congdon's colorful collections are whimsical, joyful and most importantly they make me feel not so bad about all the stuff I've collected and saved over the years.  See mom?  Other people do it too!
