Sarah Der Photography

This is my friend Sarah and her husband Bryan.  Obviously they are so cute!  Sarah and I have been friends since we met in 5th grade.  After twelve years, braces, lots of high school art classes together, and college in different states, we both ended up as artists!

Needless to say I am a super big fan of Sarah's Chapel Hill, NC based photography business.  Her photos are sweet, honest, and beautifully simple in a timeless fashion.  I cannot even tell you how difficult it was for me to choose just a few of Sarah's photos for this post!  It took me forever to narrow it down, each photo is more lovely than the last!  And she just keeps posting more on her website and blog!  What I love most about Sarah's work is that everyone she photographs, be it adorable couples, children, or family pets, looks so comfortable and classic.  You never ever have to worry about your wedding photos going out of style or looking out-dated.  They'll always be beautiful!  Check out more of Sarah's work and it will make you smile.

Flowerstorm

Why don't I ever have a camera when I need one?  By day I work in an office that is partially underground so the windows are just above eye level.  I stood up from my desk, looked outside, and just about fell over. "Oh my gosh it's SNOWING!"  Is what I thought for a full 5 seconds before I realized that what I thought was a snowstorm of big fat April snowflakes was really a tornado-ish cloud of white flower petals stirred up by a passing car.  I wish you could have seen it!  I also wish that Ohio would exclusively snow flowers.

Easter Update: The History of Grandma's Basement

Even though it was raining and we had to do the egg hunt indoors, this year's Easter egg hunt was the best yet!  You know it's gonna be good when Grandma says "Okay, everyone under the age of 30 go to the basement so we can hide the eggs".  HAhaha!

Grandma & Grandpa Rickard have always had the best dress-up clothes in their basement, everything from gold stirrup pants to rhinestone crowns.  As kids all my cousins would dress up in costumes and we would put on plays, have tea parties and build castles.  Actually, we still do that.  And now that there are boyfriends and fiances coming to family parties, they have to be initiated by dressing up with us.  Makes sense right?  So we did the Easter egg hunt in costume, and it was awesome.  Kyle won- he found the golden egg while wearing a skirt.  Happy Easter from the Rickards!

Happy Easter

We're heading home for the weekend to celebrate Easter with the families.  Aunt Becky plans an awesome Easter egg hunt every year complete with an ultimate golden egg for the best egg-hunter.  This is my year, I know it!  Have a lovely Easter!

Quarter Life Crisis

Dear everyone online,
I've been in a slump this past week where everything sucks.  It's possible (likely) that I'm being over dramatic but it's one of those funks where nothing seems to go right.  One crappy thing happens after another.  I'm not sure where I'm supposed to be living, what I should be doing with my life, when is the right time to move, why am I wasting my art makin' skills on working in an office?  And why do college and food cost so much?  What kind of a jerk creates a computer virus that sucks up your whole Sunday?  One of my friends told me that when she turned 25 she had what she calls a quarter life crisis.  And I feel like this is a mini tremor of that phase.  Ugggggggggh.  On the flip side Tyler is so patient with me.  He calms me down (when I'm crying and hyperventilating at one a.m.) and he went out and bought me flowers and half a chocolate cake the other day to cheer me up.  Whata guy!

Don't worry, I have no intentions of turning this blog into one big sob story.  The title doesn't say anything about art, whining, and depressing rants.  But sometimes a girl's just gotta vent and let it all out online.  I keep telling myself it could be much much worse, I could be starving in a trench in a war ridden country, with no shoes and wet socks.  And until I snap out of this mess I intend to take full advantage of the gallon of cookie dough ice cream in the freezer and this awesome website that I just learned about yesterday.  Chocolate therapy + Harry Potter audio books should do the trick.  It's the bad stuff that makes the good stuff even better (thanks for listening!)

Wedding Belles (and whistles)

Hooooray!  Kate Spade has a bridal collection of little white dresses and colorful accoutrements!  I want my wedding and all the guests to look like this.  Is it acceptable to note on the invitation that the dress code of glitter & sequins is mandatory?
