Birthday Weekend Adventure

To celebrate Tyler's birthday we partied it up in Amish country.  We decided that soda will always taste better in a bottle, wax bottle candy is still as awesome as ever, and some hats were only meant to be displayed with silk flowers at your great grandma's house, not worn.  Ty's mom made an amazing dinner complete with birthday apple pie and  (quite a few!) bottles of Ohio wine.

Summertime

It's the first official week of summer!  I'm super excited that we get to go home this evening to spend the weekend with Tyler's family and celebrate his birthday.  I've been waiting for it all week long: Amish country, flea markets, picnics, and so much pie to be had!  It'll be a wonderful relaxing chance to get away from work and city stuff.  Have a lovely weekend everyone ♥

Father's Day

Tyler and I are so lucky to have such exceptionally loving, funny, and awesome dads and grandpas.  This is my dad with his dad...I'm sure he'll be thrilled that I chose to share this photo!  Happy Father's Day to all of the super dads out there!

Favorite Shades

My faaaaavorite sunglasses broke.  The frames snapped in my purse, the lens fell out, it was a sad day.  But now they will live on forever in the quilt I'm working on.

Thumbs

I'm so happy that Tyler & I get to kitty-sit this week for Thumbkin.  He belongs to our dear friend Leah who is in Florida, so Thumbs gets to hang out with us for a few days!  He is the most chill friendly cat ever and he has very prominent thumbs.  His little cat hands are shaped like Michigan.  I love him ♥

Seriously Dumb

Dinner, check.  Watch Jeopardy, check.  Workout, check.  Shower, check.  Accidentally wear shirt both inside out and backwards for like twenty minutes before noticing, check.

Calder Wannabe

I've had this idea for a large scale mobile incorporating fabric and all sorts of crazy found materials, textures, and bright colors.  While I'm working on collecting for that, I made this little mobile as practice.  I'm trying my hardest to make glitter an acceptable art medium!

Favorite Columbus Places

Monday is my day off work, so Tyler and I took a walk around the city with our sketchbooks enjoying the sunshine.  We ended up on a bench by the river and the COSI steps surrounded by geese...I'm pretty sure they could sense fear.  I made a collage of the Columbus skyline while Tyler protected me from the geese (they looked pretty mad that we were on their bench).

Our goal for this summer is to visit all of our favorite places in Columbus once more before we leave in August.  We've gone on so many walks over the past two summers and ended up right here.  This is the spot where Tyler and I got engaged almost a year ago!

5th Annual Family Picnic

Yesterday was the annual Family Picnic at Schiller Park with college friends...FIVE years running!!! We met freshman year and now every year at the beginning of summer we meet up for a picnic and take a group picture.  It's so much fun spending time and eating picnic foods with all these folks, this was our best picnic yet!

Columbus Arts Festival

I did a collage demonstration yesterday at the Columbus Arts Festival and here is the final product.  The pictures below show the 45 minutes leading up to this point where people would pick out collage materials for me and I somehow had to make it all work together.  Justin Highlander, you almost threw me for a loop with that mountain goat stamp!

Big thanks to everyone who came out to the festival for a visit, Ken Aschliman for organizing the event, and Tyler for always taking pictures and helping me carry stuff!

Little Cousins

Some favorite photos from Memorial Day weekend with the little cousins.  My Aunt and Uncle flew in from Denver for a visit, and my other Uncle drove up from Virginia, so we all met up for lunch and group pictures.

Ella and Gina are the funniest little twins.  Gina was smitten with Tyler.  She said to me, "I have a secret to tell you, I looove Tyler.  But don't tell him I said that okay!"  HAha!  She followed him around all afternoon.  Even though they are identical twins, mini four year old experts on looking alike, they can't tell me and Maggie apart!

Busy Busy Busy!

I haven't made a blog post in awhile, mostly because these last two weeks have been ridiculous!  And by that I mean really really really busy.  There are pictures coming soon from Memorial Day weekend, still editing.

And tomorrow is already the beginning of another jam-packed weekend.  I will be doing a collage demonstration tomorrow evening from 6:30 - 7:15 at the Columbus Arts Festival in the Discovery District, the 50th annual Arts Festival at that!  Come visit me and my art materials while I scramble to compose a collage in 45 minutes while people are watching and probably asking me things.  Crazy!  I usually don't do well under time restrictions, we'll see how it goes.  Check out the Columbus Dispatch article here!
