A Whole Lotta Utah

The road trip pictures continue!  Check out that little Welcome to Utah sign in the distance.  Utah was the seventh state we drove through and boy was it a long day in the car.  Neither of us had ever been to Utah before and the rocky landscapes were fascinating.  I leaned out the window and took a whole lot of pictures while Tyler was in the pilot seat.  Downside: the route we chose did not include many food or bathroom break opportunities.  Oh well, it was a lovely scenic drive.

Tyler said that we were driving through Roadrunner and Wylie Coyote country.

On the way to our hotel in Blanding, Utah (where I hope we will never ever ever have stay again) we passed the Hole N' the Rock.  Down below, inside the hole, there's a home, a gift shop, a zoo, an ice cream parlor and more all carved out of the rock.  It was getting dark so we didn't stop, but that's definitely a place to put on the must see someday list.  I wonder who the guy was who had to climb up there and paint that sign.  And if he ever introduced himself as the guy who painted the Hole N' the Rock sign.  What a grand accomplishment!  We were very close to Arches National Park and were able to see one arch from the road.  In the words of Jane Austen, What are men compared to rocks and mountains?

Your photos are beautiful! When you see the magnificence of nature, it sort of makes most everything else seem unimportant. What kind of camera do you have, if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks Elaine! I feel a little guilty about posting sooo many landscape photos recently but I took about 2000 pics on the trip & I've narrowed it down to 15o. I guess that's not too bad! I used a Nikon D3000. There sure are some beautiful things to see in this country :)

These really take me back! Little known fact: I grew up in the mountains in Utah. It was a pretty amazing place to spend your childhood.

Having so much fun seeing your progress across the country!
