I just got back from a lecture at the Wexner Center with LA artist Mark Bradford and Columbus artist Aminah Robinson. Mark has a solo show opening to the public on May 8th which goes until August 15th. It was fascinating getting to hear a contemporary artist speak about everything from how he collects materials to how he has gained notoriety as an abstract artist...and he won the MacArthur genius grant in 2009. Aminah Robinson (one of my favorites!) won in 2004, so it was pretty much the mixed-media dream team!
I know good art when it gives me goosebumps and makes my stomach feel deeper than it should be. Mark's work does that AND makes me want to run to the studio and start working.
